Positions

Here is a list of available positions. For more details on each project, see below.

Position 1: Research Assistant for new course on “Digital Research Skills”

  • 📓 Project: Support development of new course on “Digital Research Skills”
  • 📆 Duration: 01.08.2024 to 30.09.2025 (flexible)
  • 🕐 Time: up to 20 hours / month (flexible)

Position 2: Research Assistant for new course on “Open Educational Materials”

  • 📓 Project: Support development of new course on “Open Educational Materials”
  • 📆 Duration: 15.08.2024 to 31.08.2025 (flexible)
  • 🕐 Time: up to 30 hours / month (flexible)

Position 3: Teaching Assistant for course on “Version Control” in WS 24/25

  • 📓 Project: Support teaching a virtual course on “Version Control” with Erasmus University Rotterdam
  • 📆 Duration: 14.10.2024 to 01.02.2025 (WS 24/25)
  • 🕐 Time: about 2 hours per week (2 SWS)

Position 4: Teaching Assistant for “Open Educational Resources” in WS 24/25

  • 📓 Tasks: Support teaching of new course on “Open Educational Materials”
  • 📆 Duration: 14.10.2024 to 01.02.2025 (WS 24/25)
  • 🕐 Time: about 2 hours per week (2 SWS)

Position 5: Teaching Assistant for “Digital Research Skills” in WS 24/25 and / or SS24

  • 📓 Project: Support teaching new course on “Digital Research Skills”
  • 📆 Duration: 14.10.2024 to 01.02.2025 (WS 24/25) and / or 07.04.2025 to 19.07.2025 (SS 24)
  • 🕐 Time: about 2 hours per week (2 SWS)

Projects

Project 1: “Digital Research Skills”

The main goal of this project is to develop a new course on “Digital Research Skills”.

Main tasks

  • Developing an online course textbook (for example, see this online textbook)
  • Maintaining a course website (for example, see this course website)
  • Creating exercises and quizzes for the course participants

Project 2: “Open Educational Resources”

The main goal of this project is to develop a new course on “Open Educational Resources”.

Main tasks

  • Developing an online course textbook (for example, see this online textbook)
  • Maintaining a course website (for example, see this course website)
  • Creating exercises and quizzes for the course participants

Project 3: “Version Control Course”

The main goal of this project is to extend an existing course on “Version Control of Code and Data with Git” for an international virtual course format, together with the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Main tasks

  • Adapt existing course materials for an international virtual learning setting (for the course textbook, see the Version Control Book)
  • Maintaining a course website (for example, see the this course website)
  • Analyzing responses to exercises and quizzes
  • Support of course participants

Salary

The salaries are fixed by the university.

Currently, they are:

  • 13,25 € / hour (SHK)
  • 15,21 € (WHK)
  • 149,52 € / SWS (Tutor)

Duration

The duration of each position indicates the earliest start date and latest end date. Ideally, you would join the project for the entire project duration but flexible start and end dates are possible.

Hours

Working hours are flexible and can also be less (more more) than stated above.

Combination of jobs

It might be possible to combine two of the advertised positions, for example you could be both a research and a teaching assistant in the same project.

Tools

Most project-related materials will be implemented in the open-source scientific and technical publishing system Quarto. The project members collaborate on the development of these materials using Git and GitHub. Don’t worry if you are not familiar with these tools yet! You will learn about these tools during our project onboarding.
